His Majesty’s Territory
Called New South Wales

By. His Excellency William Bligh Esquire Captain General and Governor in Chief in and over His Majesty’s Territory of New South Wales and its Dependencies

&c. &c. &c..

Whereas Joseph Moreton was at Court of Criminal Judicature holden at Sydney in and for the Territory aforesaid on the Twenty fourth day of October 1806 Tried and convicted of Felony and received Sentence of Death for the same; and whereas on account of the said Court having recommended him to Mercy, I am induced to extend Grace and Mercy unto him and to grant unto him the said Joseph Moreton a Pardon for his said Crime, on condition of his continuing to reside as a Convict for Life within the Limits of this Territory.

By Virtue therefore of the Power and Authority in me vested, I do hereby Grant him the said Joseph Moreton His Majesty’s Pardon for his said Offence on the Conditions above specified, which said Pardon shall be null and void if he is ever found at large out of this Territory or its Dependencies contrary to the express Tenor, Meaning and Condition hereof:

Given under my Hand and Seal of the Territory at Government House Sydney in New South Wales this Twenty sixth day of October One Thousand Eight Hundred and Six. –
