This is the only card I have but hope to get some good ones on my way home.

This French soldier is not so handsome in uniform as most of these soldiers. Their blue is very pretty but is a bad colour for Active Service – it fades so quickly. the little French girls are very quaintly dressed but all seem to grow old so quickly. They have to work so hard now. All children, old men & old women in the fields working. The raspberry, currants, gooseberry & cherries grow well here. The garden where we live is full of them but we are not allowed to pick them, but manage to have great feeds at night of stewed fruit. Fondest love & kisses from XXXXXX Auntie Eadle XX

Darling Eddy,
This is a picture of a Mummie carrying her baby and the poor Mummie has such a funny veil & mask over her face. We see these women about the streets every day. Hope you are all well & that you are having a happy time.

My Darling Eddy, XXX

This is a funny old fashioned machine drawn by bullocks. The machinery here is not like ours it is made mostly of wood, drawn by bullocks, mules, donkeys or Camels, sometimes a bullock & a camel. This is a very funny country with fields of corn etc. Hope you like the cards I send you. Your letters are lovely. Heaps of kisses & hugs. From XXXXXXXX Auntie Eadle.

My Darling Eddy,
The picture is the back view of the hospital where I’m nursing, the poor wounded soldiers. Charlie is here & has been wounded but is very much better. I saw Keith Saturday night for a short time & Sunday I had tea with him in Cairo. He is looking very well. It is fearfully hot. Heaps of love & kisses from Auntie Ede.

Your letters are lovely & hope I shall receive some more this week. Give Grandma, Mummie & Aunts a big hug & kiss for me & take heaps for your dear little self. From Auntie Ede.

My darling Eddy,

I have just received two letters No 20 & No 21, with your lovely little letters enclosed. The pictures are beautiful & you are quite clever at drawing. I wrote to Aunty Etta yesterday & find the mail does not close until today. I have not time to write one to them, so you tell them I am better & had a very nice outing yesterday. Sister Martin, Craig, Hart & I had afternoon tea in Cairo, then drove along the Avenue beside the River Nile . We had a glorious afternoon. The Nile River is at its highest tide now – looks like a rough dirty sea – The Bull-rushes are beautiful just now. Fondest love & kisses From Auntie Eadle
