  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

Henry Lawson, poet and short-story writer, was born at Grenfell, N.S.W. in 1867. His poems were first published in The Bulletin in 1887 and a short story was published in 1888. The year 1905 marked the beginning of a period of spasmodic literary output in Henry Lawson's life and of gradual personal disintegration. He spent periods in prison for drunkenness and for non-payment of maintenance to his wife Bertha and their two children. Lawson died in Sydney in 1922.
