  • General note

The album includes many contributions from Jones' social circle, including the Cowpers, Stuart Donaldson (his father's business partner), and the Ferriters who married into the Jones family.
It has not proved possible to identify the artist of Sydney watercolours - f.12 St Philips, f.16 Bona Vista, f.19 Seat of the Rev.d W. Cowper D.D., f.39 Darlinghurst - which date from around 1840. These drawings are possibly in the same hand as f.24, Hyde Park near Sydney, which is initialled "J.B. 1840".
This is one of three similar albums compiled by Jones family members. Another album is also held by the Library at PXA 3101 (microfilm copy: CY 2063, frames 1-170), the third is in private hands.
Information about this album has been compiled by J.G. Steele, a Jones descendant, in 2002. This information forms the basis of this record: more detailed listings are held with the original album.
No.25 `Port Jackson - pencil drawing' shows the stables of Elizabeth Bay House (centre), completed in mid-1827.
