    James Wilshire came to N.S.W. on the Royal Admiral, which on this voyage carried mainly convicts, to take up an appointment as a clerk with the Commissariat. He later had a business as a tanner in the colony.
  • Scope and Content
    'Journal.... kept on board the Royal Admiral.... from England to New South Wales' 5 May - 16 July 1800. This incomplete journal describes the first 10 weeks of a voyage which lasted seven months. It includes many references to the behaviour of convicts on board, and to the officers and crew. Wilshire describes how the free passengers formed watches among themselves because they feared rebellion by the ship's crew.
