    Drawings - 1 watercolour on ivory miniature in black japanned wooden rectangular frame, with oval glass front edged in brass, no backing, and floral brass decoration at top centre with loop attached for hanging. The drawing is held in place with triangular shaped metal pins. - 8.5 x 6.8 cm. inside frame (sight) - 15.3 x 13 cm. frame, 1.8 loop
  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    John Piper, military officer and public servant, was born in 1773 in Scotland. He arrived in Sydney in 1792 to serve as an ensign in the New South Wales Corps before transferring to Norfolk Island (1793-1795). In 1795 John Piper returned to the mainland being promoted to lieutenant and was appointed Captain in 1800.
