4 paintings held in Mitchell Library are all titled in brushpoint on the canvas, in a similar hand (ML 257,377,445,1168). Better artists were less likely to title their work on the actual painting, so indications are that these 4 works were produced by a lesser-known artist working from a superior original oil by a more prominent artist, to sell to a broader popular market. See individual records for details of the works from which the imitations may have been made. Source: ML Pictures Curator, Dec. 2003
