    `This picture was probably by Podmore who worked with Carse' -- in ink on label attached to verso
  • Attributions / conjectures

    This painting has been attributed to George Podmore on the basis of the label on the reverse. According to his death certificate, Podmore is thought to have arrived in Australia around `60 years before his death in 1916', ie, ca 1866 so he was not in Australia in 1850 when this work was painted. `A Biographical Register 1788-1939' states George Podmore (1829-1916) `Arr. Syd. c.1867'.
    A watercolour drawing of Mosmans Bay (SV / 186) has been signed and dated `G.Podmore 1889'.
