  • General note

Partial typescript contents list with manuscript annotations affixed inside album cover

The album may have belonged to Arthur Onslow at one time as it includes photographs of HMS Herald, its Captain & officers, other ships in which he served and places visited on his cruises. Many of the captions appear to be in his handwriting. According to Jack Cato in his ""The Story of Camera in Australia"", an album very similar in description to this was William Macarthur's prviate album and consists of pictures chiefly taken by him (pp. 14-15]. However, this is clearly a later assemblage of images by several photographers, chiefly Onslow and William Hetzer. The Macarthur attribution by Cato is no longer considered sound.
