The work is not signed, titled, or dated. Date derived from approximate age of sitter. Accompanying the portrait is a non-contemporaneous bakelite rectangular label with black print, "Lieut. Wm. Lawson / 1774-1850. / Who, with Blaxland, made the first / crossing of the Blue Mountains in 1813."
