Administrative / Biographical Note
John Oxley was Surveyor-General of New South Wales, 1812-1828. He was appointed by Governor Lachlan Macquarie in 1817 to lead an expedition to trace the course of the Lachlan River and investigate the western interior of the colony.

The journal entries describe John Oxley's exploration of Moreton Bay written between 10-29 Sept. 1824. Entries for 10-29 Sept. 1824 are written at front of book on pages 1-77; entries for 7-9 Oct. 1824 are written on inverted pages 78-97.
