Photographs reproduced in: Fashion and Society. Sydney : Deaton & Spencer. Location number: Q059/F Mitchell Library. The graphic ‘positive-negative portrait’ (PXE 649 v.5 /80) appeared in Fashion magazine January 1947, with the caption, ‘Is your face dim and undistinguished, the sort of face people never seem to remember? Or do you thank your stars, and the cosmetic companies, that there are so many wonderful aids to Nature at your finger-tips, and accentuate your features with a little judicious painting?’ Hillier later chose this image for his business card.
