  Sydney Exposures exhibition caption: The silent movie, Sydney, 1927 : Hollywood director William Reed directs his wife Eva Novak in the Australian movie 'The Romance of Runnibede'. Robert Dexter, Sydney editor of 'Everyone's Magazine', defended the importing of overseas stars before the 1927 Film commission: Beauty is the merchandise of the motion picture industry and Australia is particularly barren of beauty. He added that of 1104 Australian girls screen tested, 'only 2 measured up to standard'.
