    LR plan #9
The central point where people by the thousands gathered on a Friday night and weekends to let off steam or partake in entertainment at the many hotels and theatres. Laughter and pandemonium, music and singing of a dozen nations were the weekly celebration of a prosperous goldfield. As George Johnson wrote - 'It was a scene that only Charles Dickens could describe'.
On the northeastern corner is John Hunter's Boot Shop where old shoes were cast off for new. On the western side below McCulloch's Bookshop is the former premises of Dr Pericles. Dr Bubb was in occupation in July 1872, and only two months later he died of acute bronchitis. -- Information supplied by Baldwin & Davis, Research Gulgong (Dec 2006)
