  Signed 'Hurley' in pencil on verso in unknown hand.

  Dated and titled from information received with the photograph from the previous owner who stated that the photograph was taken at 11 a.m. in Martin Place, possibly on 30th July, 1915, the date set aside as 'Australia Day' by the Australian Division of the Red Cross, for raising a fund.
  
  This is unlikely as Hurley was on an Antarctic expedition with Sir Ernest Shackleton between Octover 1914 and November 1916. Australia Day was also held in July in subsequent years of World War I on 28 July 1916, 27 July 1917, and 26 July 1918. The more probable date is 26 July 1918, the year Hurley was in Sydney following his marriage in April 1918.
