James Snowden Calvert was an explorer and botanist who migrated to Australia in 1841. Calvert accompanied Ludwig Leichhardt on his overland expedition form Brisbane to Port Essington. In 1869 Calver married the distinguished naturalist and author, Louisa Atkinson.
