  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    After being refused entry in to the Australian Army Nursing Service for being over age, Frances Agnes Bennett (1864-1933) went to England and then Egypt in 1915, where she enlisted in the Queen Alexandria Nursing Service. As Sub-Matron on HMHS Mauretania she nursed at all the Mediterranean ports, and was also in charge of barges on the French canals which were used to transfer the severely wounded.
