    John Connell, a landholder on the Kurnell peninsula, addressed this petition to Captain Henry Dumaresq recommending that Aborigines known to him receive General Darling's donation of blankets. Dumaresq was secretary to Governor Darling during Darling's term of office from December 1825 to October 1831.

    At this period Bulkabra or Bolgobrough was regarded as the ‘chief’ of Botany Bay. His wife, ‘Mrs Bulkabra’, was called Queen Maria.

    Connell writes that the bearers of the note, Bolgobrough and his brother Willamanann (also known as William Munnen), ‘Generally Reside at the South Side of Botany bay, they and their tribe are come to Sydney for his Excellency General Darling’s Benevolent Donation of Blankets & for the Ensuing Winter. I know them from many years’.
