  "Photograph of silhouette believed to be D'Arcy Wentworth
  Five prints of a photograph of a silhouette have been in P1 for many years. Four of these have written on the back in pencil in the hand of a former Librarian (Mr Wright (?))
  'This photo is believed to be of D'Arcy Wentworth by his great grandson Mr. Wm. Chas. Wentworth 1920.'
  A sixth print, identical with the others, came to the Library from the Bertie Collection donated by A. B. Bertie, 23rd March, 1953 and this is labelled in pencil
  'D'Arcy Wentworth from silhouette in Mitchell Library'
  In 1965 Brian Bird copied this photograph and his negative is held by him, his no. is 310-18. A rough proof from this negativeis also filed at P1.
  In 1969 we trid to investigate the authenticity of this statement. The costume would appear to be early 19th century, could be as early as 1805 and as late as 1835, but most probably 1815-20. It is difficult to judge the age of the man portrayed but he would appear to be middle-aged.
  D'Arcy Wentworth Senior, was born in 1762 (?) and died in 1827, so that in the period 1815-20 he would have been in his fifties. His son D'Arcy would have been in his twenties and it is possible if we are correct in dating the portrait 1815-1820 that it shows D'Arcy Wentworth Senior. However, as we have no likeness of D'Arcy Wentworth Senior we cannot go further with our checking. S. U. 10.7.69"
