  • ADMINISTRATIVE/ BIOGRAPHICAL HISTORY

    Thomas Scott, born in Scotland in 1800, was educated as a surveyor. He was superintendent of government stock in Hobart Town 1820-1821 and appointed by Governor Macquarie to the post of Assistant Surveyor-General of Van Diemen's Land from 1821-1830 under G.W. Evans. Scott was responsible for surveying much of the early settlements, exploring parts of the east coast betweeen 1822 and 1824, and published a chart of Tasmania that showed the coastaline of the island and the land grants.
